JJ Virgin Diaries Introduction

If you've been following my blogs and activities on social media you might have noticed that I have been drowning my sorrows in some really tasty but fattening food recently. So now that I weigh a ton, I’m going on the JJ Virgin diet. I need all the tips I can get to make this a success. Please help meeeeeeeeee!!!

Specifically I need any and all recipes and tips on what to order and more importantly what not to order at restaurants to avoid at all cost: sugar, peanut products, soy products, dairy, eggs, gluten and corn products. Thank God you're only supposed to go on the diet three weeks at a time. Then you take a break and go back on it for three more weeks until you get to your goal weight or to maintain your weight loss after your get to your ideal size and health level.

I will be starting the diet in the next couple of months. I will be keeping a journal and sharing some of my experiences in a series of articles in my blogs which I'm calling the JJ Virgin Diaries. Please feel free to ask any questions you may have. Additionally, feel free to correct me on any thing I may be wrong and therefore giving misinformation about the diet too.

Wish me luck

Papa Murphy's Take N Bake Pizza 3488 US Hwy 17 Richmond Hill, GA 31324 (912) 445-0777

Tonight was my first time at Papa Murphy's ever. This pizza is the bomb. First time ever having s'mores dessert pizza too. I usually don't like dessert pizza, either it is too sweet, has too much bread, whatever, but this one even looked good before I even took it home and baked it. So to my surprise and delight, the s'mores pizza was so good with a glass of milk. Good value too. got the pizza, dessert and a two liter drink for twelve dollars plus tax and the service was excellent.

The Diner 314 E Market St, Smithfield, NC 27577 (919) 934-6644

I found this place by accident while I was hungry and looking for another restaurant after filling my car with gas on a trip from Richmond,VA to Fayetteville,NC or vice versa. I have never been so glad that I did not find the place I was looking for because the food was unique and original like homemade and the service was so good here. This cozy place is still my stop and get my grub on spot while traveling. I only wish that they were open on the weekend.

The Dog House 3049 Owen Dr, Fayetteville, NC 28306 (910) 323-2400 I miss this place and the people.

This place was my spot when I lived in Fayetteville, NC from 2009 to 2011. Awesome food, great service, fun folks to fellowship with while eating, drinking at the bar and watching Southpark (a late night grown folk's cartoon on Comedy Central television network). Loved the Kujo wings, daily lunch specials, and the spiced peel and eat shrimp on Wednesdays.

Hooters at 4 Gateway Blvd W, Savannah, GA 31409 (912)925-2536

On Thursday, August 15, 2013, I got the cheeseburger sliders. These were so good. I ordered the curly fries instead of the onion straws they came with and took them home. I got twenty of the naked, spicy garlic wings ate about four of those at the restaurant and took the rest home. Of course I ordered my all time favorite, the fried pickles which I shared with my fellow poker players. Yes Dear, Thursday night is poker night at Hooter's. One game starts at 6:30pm and the other starts around 9pm.

Hey Ms Linda@Cakes Unlimited @ 8890 Abercorn St, Savannah, GA 31406 You're the Greatest !!!

I got a mini key lime layer cake on August 8, 2013 and it was a little lime cloud of joy. About a year ago I got a full size chocolate and banana layer cake from Cakes Unlimited and was equally satisfied. Linda Waters, the owner and founder is working some serious pastry magic over there.

Blue Turtle Bistro of The Gaslight restaurant group in Savannah is excellent. Lunch there today brightened my dreary day

I got the lunch special which was the marinated, grilled chicken sandwich topped with melted cheddar cheese, mixed greens, sliced tomato, and crispy bacon on a kaiser bun. The chicken on the sandwich was so juicy and flavorful that I realized only after eating that there was no mayonnaise or dressing. Healthier and tasty too, what a win-win.  It came with one side which I chose the spinach salad. The salad came to me first and was simple, light and refreshing. The flour less chocolate torte was a very happy conclusion to a wonderful dining experience. The service was fast and polite. My order was correct and the environment was comfortable and pleasant. The address is 5002 Paulsen Street #105 Savannah, Georgia 31405. The phone number is (912)358-0808..

Whatever happened to spoonbread? Can't find the mix in the store for it anywhere. So here's a recipe for it from Saveur.com.

Boone Tavern’s Spoonbread This starter, one of the most popular offerings at Boone Tavern, which has featured the specialty for more than 60 years, is a creamy-centered cornbread pudding that rises like a soufflĂ©.

SERVES 6–8

 INGREDIENTS
4 tbsp. unsalted butter (1 tbsp. softened, 3 tbsp. melted)
 3 cups milk
1¼ cups finely ground white cornmeal
 1 tsp. baking powder
1 tsp. fine salt 2 eggs, well beaten

INSTRUCTIONS
 1. Grease a 9" round cake pan with some of the softened butter. Cut out a parchment paper circle to fit inside the pan, nestle it into the bottom, and grease the paper with the remaining softened butter. Set the prepared pan aside.
2. In a 2-quart saucepan, bring the milk to a boil, whisking occasionally, over high heat. While whisking, pour in the cornmeal in a steady stream. Whisk vigorously to incorporate the cornmeal, for about 1 minute. Remove the pan from the heat and set aside to let the cornmeal mixture cool to room temperature.
3. Heat oven to 350°. Transfer the cornmeal mixture to the bowl of a standing mixer fitted with a paddle attachment. Add the remaining butter, baking powder, salt, and eggs and mix on medium speed until uniform and aerated, about 15 minutes.
4. Pour cornmeal batter into the prepared pan and bake until golden brown and puffy and a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean, about 1 hour and 20 minutes. Serve immediately

Does anyone have a recipe for sweet, spiced corn pudding that they are willing to share? Please, pretty please?

My dearly departed Auntie Gertrude Wray made the best corn pudding this side of the Mississippi River. It's was sweet sort of cinnamonny (yes I know cinnamonny is not a word, I'm taking credit for making it up LOL) , it might have had some vanilla flavoring or extract in it and maybe a hint of nutmeg. However, no one in our family got her recipe before she became ill and passed away. I have searched high and low but haven't found any recipe that give the dessert the flavor my auntie's pudding had, but this one from Allrecipes.com gets the sweetness and texture just right.
